In last week’s plants class we drew alstroemeria flowers. They are also called Peruvian lilies but no matter what you call them I think they are a pretty addition to any flower vase.
For our project we drew them entirely in colored pencil but my study on the right has an underpainting of watercolor. I like the combination of the two media – the watercolor establishes the general color shapes and the pencil gives me the control I like for adding fine lines to the leaves and petals.
Although the flowers are not so easy to draw, everyone rose to the challenge and did an excellent job.
Prints of my drawing are available from my art shop.
Until next time…keep those pencils sharp!
