Every year I make my own Christmas cards and while friends and family may receive one style of card hubby’s card is always different. This year I took inspiration from all the zendalas that I had been creating but rather than just make a round card I added the cap and loop and made it into an ornament. Color was added with micron pens and the shading was done with a graphite pencil. I cut a hole at the top and added a small length of black cording so it could be hung on the tree. Hubby loved it!
Hope your holiday was a merry one!
Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for following along with me in my adventures and I look forward to sharing new ideas and artwork with you in the coming year.
Every so often I see a painting online that inspires me to try to paint watercolors in a more fluid manner. This means using lots of water and letting the paint move on the paper. I chose do a small painting (2.5″ x 3.5″) figuring the smaller area would be less frustrating to keep everything wet.
Rather than just start painting I wanted to make something different so I first drew the iris lightly in pencil then I applied masking fluid to the lines. After mixing up large puddles of color I took my #10 round brush and dropped the paint onto the paper. I let the colors mix and mingle on their own. If any hard edges started to form I softened them with a damp brush. Once the paint was dry the masking fluid was removed and a few more dark patches of color were added to create shadowy areas. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. By not fussing with the paint I was rewarded with a fun little painting.
It has finally happened, there has been enough snowfall that the plow has been down my street twice today. This is definitely a clear sign that winter has arrived in my little corner of the world. I think a fitting way to celebrate this is with a fun penguin sketch for my Alphabet Series. This is a chin strap penguin, named for the black band under their chins that make them look like they are wearing a helmet. If you have any ideas on what animal you’d like me to draw next please let me know.
I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and now we begin to prepare for all the Christmas and New Year festivities. Why not print a copy of this month’s calendar and keep track of everything all in one spot? There is plenty of room for all your notes.
I have had a lot of fun sharing these monthly creations with you. As with most things in life change is inevitable and beginning in 2014 I will not be including the calendar as part of this blog. If you would like to continue to receive a copy please send me a message via my contact form and I will email you a printable version as each one is created.
